David Hodgson was born in Norwich in 1798 and received drawing lessons from John Crome at the local grammar school. Rose de Lima was born in 1586 in the vicinity of the hospital of the Spirit Santo of the City of Lima, then capital of Peru. Sappho was born in the late 700s BC on Lesbos, one of the larger islands in the Aegean, near Lydia (now Turkey).
