Daniel Goddard heads the Picture Department with the assistance of the respected
expertise of consultant picture valuer Martin Scadgell. Our unique and comprehensive
reference library and Internet services helps to ensure that clients' pictures are
marketed to the best possible advantage.
Our Picture Department covers all areas, including oil paintings, miniatures, watercolours
and other drawings as well as engravings, etchings and prints.
Over thirty years ago we identified an unrecorded Hogarth portrait (£24,000 in 1967)
and a small sketch by Constable (£30,000 in 1968) and the firm has continued to
achieve many world record prices over the last three decades, including £410,000
for a masterpiece by the Swiss artist Wolfgang Adam Topffer.)
We are indeed indebted to the founders of the Company for setting up a uniquely
comprehensive reference library that lists artists and the prices achieved for their
works over fifty years. This greatly helps us to ensure that clients’ pictures are
marketed to the best possible advantage.
